BJP legislators launched a protest in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Tuesday morning, accusing the TMC government of taking undemocratic actions. The protest, which occurred in the vehicle porch of the assembly, saw BJP members donning turbans and raising slogans against the ruling government. This protest follows several contentious issues, including the suspension of BJP members and allegations of suppression of opposition voices.
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the BJP in the assembly, criticized the TMC government, claiming that the opposition members were being punished for raising concerns about religious and educational matters. He highlighted the suspension of several BJP members, including himself, for allegedly speaking out on behalf of the Hindu community. He also pointed to previous protests over incidents involving religious figures and educational activists, claiming that Mamata Banerjee's government was attempting to stifle any dissent within the assembly.
In response, Speaker Biman Banerjee condemned the remarks made by Suvendu Adhikari. He stated that such inflammatory comments were inappropriate for the assembly, emphasizing that while the people of Bengal remained calm, the remarks could lead to unrest. Banerjee further called for an apology from Adhikari, urging him to reconsider his statements.
